Thread lifting reduces sagging of the facial tissues and achieves a more youthful-looking appearance.
If you are struggling with mild to moderate skin laxity, and have noticed that your facial tissues are starting to sag, you might consider a cosmetic procedure designed to address the issue. A popular alternative to surgery, thread lifting is a minimally invasive treatment that works by tightening the skin with the use of special facial threads. These threads are a type of surgical suture that are inserted into the target area — when they are drawn out, they move the skin back into its former position, lifting the tissues and improving the overall contours of the face. So, what exactly does the process involve? And what can you expect from the treatment?
What can you expect from the procedure?
Before your treatment begins, your practitioner may apply a topical anaesthetic to your skin. This will cause numbness and ensure that you remain comfortable throughout the procedure. A thin needle is then used to insert the facial threads underneath the skin in the target area. Depending on the size of the area that you are having treated, this process can take up to 45 minutes to complete.
When all of the threads have been placed, they will then be drawn out. You may experience a sensation of pressure or tightening underneath your skin, but the process is not generally considered painful.
The treatment involves very little downtime, although there are several things you should avoid while you recover – for example, we advise against getting facials or dental procedures in the two weeks following thread lifting. It is also possible to experience certain side-effects at the site of treatment — these include bruising, bleeding, swelling and some tenderness. All of these side-effects are completely normal, and will resolve with time. We will provide you with a detailed post-operative care brochure to ensure that you have all the information you need to have a smooth recovery.
How does it work?
When your practitioner has inserted the facial threads underneath the skin, they can then tighten the skin by pulling it into better positions. This works as the threads grip to the tissue and muscles beneath your skin as they are pulled.
Furthermore, as the threads are inserted beneath the skin, the body’s natural healing process is triggered. This, in turn, stimulates the production of new proteins in the target area. With this stimulation and new production, sagging skin is restored to a more youthful, elastic texture and appearance.
Which areas can be treated?
Thread lifting is often an effective option when it comes to addressing areas of the face that have started to sag, or which have lost their youthful tightness. Many areas of the face can be targeted with thread lifting, including the area underneath the eyes; cheeks; forehead; jawline; brow line; and neck.
Who is suited to thread lifting?
Ideal candidates for thread lifting typically range between their mid-30s and mid-50s. Patients should ideally be in good general health and have a generally healthy skin tone. The treatment is well-suited to those who have noticed some of the signs of ageing, such as a loss of skin elasticity, and would like to achieve effective, but subtle results.
