When it comes to addressing the signs of ageing, there are a number of effective treatments available.
You may have noticed fine lines and wrinkles beginning to appear on your skin — unfortunately, these are some of the most common signs of ageing. The good news, however, is that there are a number of ways in which these kinds of issues can be resolved for a refreshed, more youthful-looking appearance. Some of the most popular treatments include dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections. Both of these treatments are highly effective, but there are some key differences between them.
Read on to find out about each of these procedures, and when they should be used…
What do the treatments do?
Anti-wrinkle injections are made from a specially formulated protein that works by relaxing the muscles. It is a highly effective option when it comes to the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles, especially in the areas around the mouth and eyes. The injections are also often administered in the area between the eyebrows.
Although dermal fillers can also be used to treat wrinkles, they are also used to restore volume to areas such as the lips and cheeks. They are often an ideal choice for those who have noticed a loss of skin volume and would like to achieve a plumper, more youthful aesthetic.
What do the procedures involve?
Both dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections are simple and quick to administer. First, the site of treatment will be thoroughly cleaned. A very small needle will be used to inject the formula into the target area of the skin. The number of applications that you will need will depend on a few factors, including your aesthetic goals and the site of treatment.
Whether you choose to have dermal fillers or anti-wrinkle injections, you can expect minimal downtime after treatment. In fact, with both options, you should be able to resume your normal activities immediately after treatment.
How effective are the treatments?
In the case of anti-wrinkle injections, you can expect the results of your treatment to last for between three and four months. In order to enjoy long-term results, it is advisable that you have top-up treatments every few months.
Generally, the results of dermal fillers last longer than anti-wrinkle injections. This does, however, differ from person to person and also depends on the type of filler that is used. As with anti-wrinkle injections, top-up dermal filler treatments are a good idea in order to enjoy long-lasting results.
Are there any side effects?
Both anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers are considered safe treatments. There are, however, a few possible side-effects that can occur. These include bruising, swelling and redness at the site of injection. All of these side effects are usually mild and temporary and should resolve with time. You may find it helpful to use an ice pack to relieve swelling.
If you are concerned about the potential side effects of either of these procedures, or you are not sure if you are a suitable candidate for treatment, we encourage you to speak to Dr Wong about your options.
