Are you troubled by gum recession, where your gums have shrunken back, exposing the roots of your teeth? We understand how this can affect your smile’s aesthetics, as well as cause sensitivity and potential oral health concerns. That’s why we offer an advanced solution: Fibrin-Assisted Soft Tissue Promotion.
Our gum recession treatment focuses on utilizing the natural regenerative properties of your body to promote the growth of new gum tissue, effectively covering and protecting the exposed roots. With our expertise in this innovative surgical technique, we can help restore your gum line and enhance both the health and appearance of your smile.
Fibrin-assisted soft tissue promotion is a straightforward surgical technique that involves using APRF (Advanced Platelet-Rich Fibrin) to supply natural growth factors. These growth factors help the recipient’s soft tissue to create new keratinised (toughened and stable) attached tissue without the need for a separate donor site.
The procedure of fibrin-assisted soft tissue promotion typically involves the following steps:
- Patient preparation: The patient’s medical history is reviewed, and any necessary preoperative evaluations are performed. Optimal oral hygiene techniques and a deep clean are performed to remove the bacterial contamination of the root surface (biofilm) – ideally 2 weeks prior to surgery and on the day of surgery. Local anaesthesia is administered to numb the surgical site. Surgery can either be awake or asleep
- Harvesting APRF: A small amount of the patient’s blood is drawn, similar to a regular blood test. The blood sample is then centrifuged to separate the platelet-rich fibrin from other components of the blood, such as red blood cells and plasma.
- Preparation of recipient site: The area where new tissue growth is desired, gum recession or root exposure, is prepared by cleaning and removing any biofilm or damaged/diseased tissue.
- Application of APRF: The prepared APRF, which contains concentrated growth factors, is applied to the recipient site. It may be shaped or moulded to fit the desired tissue contours.
- Tissue integration: The APRF acts as a scaffold and provides a rich source of growth factors that stimulate the recipient tissue to regenerate and promote the formation and attachment of new keratinised tissue to the exposed root surface.
- Healing and follow-up: The patient is provided with postoperative instructions and medications, if necessary, to support healing. Follow-up appointments are scheduled to monitor the progress of tissue regeneration and ensure optimal results.
Benefits of undergoing the Fibrin-Assisted Soft Tissue Promotion procedure for gum recession include:
- Gum Tissue Regeneration: The procedure stimulates the growth and attachment of new gum tissue, allowing it to cover and protect the exposed roots of the teeth. This helps to restore a healthier gum line, prevent further recession and reduce plaque trapping.
- Improved Aesthetics: Receding gums can impact the appearance of your smile, making it look uneven or disproportionate. By promoting the regeneration of gum tissue, this procedure enhances the aesthetics of your smile, providing a more harmonious and balanced look.
- Reduced Tooth Sensitivity: Exposed tooth roots can lead to heightened sensitivity, causing discomfort when consuming hot or cold foods and drinks. By covering the exposed roots with regenerated gum tissue, sensitivity is reduced, making eating and drinking more enjoyable.
- Enhanced Gum Health: Gum recession can create pockets between the gum line and teeth, increasing the risk of bacterial accumulation and gum disease. The regeneration of gum tissue helps to seal these pockets, reducing the chances of gum infection and promoting overall gum health.
- Protection for Tooth Roots: The newly regenerated gum tissue acts as a protective barrier for the exposed roots, shielding them from external irritants, such as bacteria, plaque, and mechanical abrasion. This helps to prevent further damage and potential complications.
- Improved Long-Term Stability: By addressing gum recession and promoting gum tissue regeneration, the procedure provides long-term stability for the affected teeth. It helps to maintain the proper position of the gums and support the surrounding structures, preserving the health and integrity of the teeth.
