Dental Implants in Glen Iris

Dr Jaclyn Wong has been performing dental implant surgery for over 20 years, holds Nobel Biocare Centre of Excellence recognition, and trained at the Malo Clinic in Lisbon — the practice that pioneered the All-on-4® technique.

Losing a tooth changes more than the gap it leaves. It changes how you eat, how you speak, and over time, how the jaw around it responds. For patients looking to fix missing teeth, dental implant surgery offers an alternative approach to tooth replacement.

Dr Jaclyn Wong is a local implant dentist in Glen Iris with a particular focus on implant treatment. She holds both a medical degree and a dental degree, which means every implant case benefits from a surgical understanding that spans both disciplines.

What is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is a titanium post that is placed into the jawbone to replace the root of a missing tooth. Once integrated with the bone, it provides a foundation for a crown, bridge, or other restoration. The result is a fixed tooth replacement that is anchored in the jaw rather than relying on surrounding teeth or the gum for support.

Implants can be used to replace a single missing tooth, multiple missing teeth, or as part of a full-arch restoration such as All-on-4® implant surgery.

Why Replace a Missing Tooth?

When a tooth is lost and not replaced, the jawbone in that area begins to lose density over time. Surrounding teeth can shift into the gap, affecting the bite and placing additional pressure on remaining teeth.

The long-term effects of unaddressed tooth loss extend beyond the gap itself, which is why Dr Jaclyn encourages patients to explore a missing tooth solution sooner rather than later.

Single, multiple & full mouth dental implants

At Dr Jaclyn’s Glen Iris clinic, missing tooth replacement options include single tooth implants for one missing tooth, multiple tooth implants for several missing teeth, and full mouth dental implants to restore an entire arch.

Our approach to dental implant treatment

Healthy gum tissue and a clean oral environment play a critical role in determining long-term implant outcomes, and this preparatory phase is something Dr Jaclyn considers an integral part of the treatment plan.

Dr Jaclyn utilises platelet rich fibrin (PRF) therapy in her implant procedures. PRF is derived from the patient’s own blood and applied during surgery to support tissue regeneration as part of the integration process.

Post-surgical hygiene care is provided through the clinic’s oral health therapy programme using EMS Airflow technology, in dedicated hour-long appointments. This ongoing support is encouraged for all implant patients to optimise and promote long term outcomes.

The dental implant procedure

Consultation and Assessment

Every implant case begins with a thorough consultation. Dr Jaclyn reviews your dental and medical history, discusses your goals, and reviews a 3D CT scan to assess your bone structure and help plan the treatment. She takes the time to explain what the process involves and to answer any questions before any decisions are made.

Oral health therapy

Patients are encouraged to complete a session of oral health therapy before implant surgery. This prepares the gum tissue and establishes the hygiene routine that supports the implant over the long term.

Implant placement

Implant surgery is performed under local anaesthetic or general anaesthetic (controlled unconsciousness). The titanium implant is placed into the jawbone, and the site is allowed to heal. Dr Jaclyn utilises PRF therapy during the procedure to support tissue regeneration. A temporary restoration may be placed during the healing period so patients are not without a tooth.

Integration and Final Restoration

Over the following months, the implant integrates with the surrounding bone. During this period, the patient is advised not to function on the implant for about 3 months. Once this process is complete, the final crown or restoration is placed and adjusted to suit the patient’s bite and aesthetic needs.

Ongoing care

Post-surgical hygiene appointments using EMS Airflow technology are encouraged for all implant patients. Dr Jaclyn supports patients through the ongoing care phase and monitors the health of the implant and surrounding tissue over time.

Prior to booking your dental implant consultation with Dr Wong, please ensure you have your 3D scan and a completed Health Questionnaire, and bring these along to your appointment. The forms can be downloaded from the links below.

Dental implant costs and payment plans

Some private health funds provide cover for dental implant treatment, depending on the level of cover held. The clinic accepts all private health fund claims via HICAPS, and we can help you understand what your fund may cover. Flexible payment options are also available through TLC Payment Plans.

The cost of dental implants depends on the number of implants required, the complexity of the case, and whether additional procedures such as bone grafting are involved.

An in-person consultation is the best place to start to determine suitability, tailored treatment costs and payment options.

FAQs

When a tooth is lost and not replaced, the jawbone in that area begins to lose density over time as it no longer receives stimulation from a tooth root. Surrounding teeth may shift into the gap over time, which can affect the bite and the alignment of remaining teeth.

With appropriate care and ongoing hygiene maintenance, dental implants are designed to be a long-term tooth replacement solution. Individual outcomes depend on a range of factors including bone quality, overall health, and commitment to the post-surgical hygiene programme.

In most cases, a temporary restoration can be placed so patients are not without a tooth during the healing phase.

This depends on the individual case. In some situations, an implant can be placed immediately after extraction. In others, a healing period is required before implant placement.

Dental implants are anchored in the jawbone and are not designed to be removable. In some cases, integration issues can occur, which is one of the reasons Dr Wong places significant emphasis on pre-surgical oral health preparation and post-surgical hygiene care.
